ABOUT MODSIM

MODSIM is a virtual military flying organisation founded in 2007. It provides structured training, realistic procedures, operational flying and fellowship for adult flight-simulation enthusiasts using MSFS 2024 and DCS

Our Mission

To provide an enjoyable and disciplined military aviation environment using modern flight simulation.

Training

New members begin as Officer Cadets at Cranwell, receive wings after the Grob checkride, remain Officer Cadets until graduation, then progress to squadron service.

Community

MODSIM values respect, teamwork, good communication and support for fellow members.

Standards

Ranks, appointments, qualifications and awards are granted by the MODSIM Executive.

DCS Operations

MODSIM also operates in Digital Combat Simulator (DCS), giving members the opportunity to fly modern combat aircraft in a more tactical environment.

Our DCS flying is centred on RAF Akrotiri, Cyprus, where MODSIM's No. 1 (NATO) Expeditionary Squadron operates the F/A-18C Hornet and F-16C Viper.

The squadron provides a home for members who enjoy modern fast-jet operations, multinational scenarios and the additional challenge offered by DCS.

Friday Fun Night

Not every MODSIM flight has to be part of formal squadron operations or training. Friday Fun Night is our informal weekly flying session, where members can simply get together and enjoy flying.

Members are free to fly any aircraft, from anywhere, to anywhere, using whichever simulator or type of flying suits the evening.

Friday Fun Night is deliberately relaxed. Flights do not require MODSIM logbook entries and no operational or training records are created. The aim is simply to fly together, have some fun and enjoy the social side of MODSIM.
